BURNOUT never again!

It is said, “that our state of mind and perception shape our reality.” Therefore, it becomes crucial to shift that state, or in other words, let’s transform the way we perceive “Burnout.” Please indulge me as I offer you a glimpse into the inner workings of my mind.

Inspiration, motivation, and imagination follow a trajectory akin to the song “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin. They commence with a gentle introduction, gradually intensifying until reaching a grand climax, where a plethora of powerful emotions are experienced—hands raised high, heads swaying, perhaps even wordlessly singing along.

Everything feels just right!

However, inevitably, we come to the realization that the song has ended. Whaaat?! At this moment, echoes of Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child o’ Mine” resonates in my mind, asking, “Where do we go now?” It is during such junctures that developing a distinct comprehension of the term “burnout” becomes crucial.

Robin Sharma, among others, wisely reminds us that “Remember, this is not a sprint but more of a marathon in the game of life.” When inspiration flows and motivation ignites, we find ourselves dashing forward at the speed of a sprinter. It’s an exhilarating experience that floods our brains with astounding levels of dopamine, leaving us with a tremendous sense of satisfaction.

Life is good!

However, inevitably, we reach what may seem like a conclusion, where exhaustion sets in, and we may perceive it as burnout. But let us reframe this situation and see it as a period of rest, a necessary intermission before our next burst of inspiration, before embarking on the subsequent leg of our marathon.

We must understand that we haven’t been sidelined from the game. As long as we refuse to surrender, we are never truly defeated. Personal development is an ongoing journey that has no definitive endpoint.

Therefore, we should embrace these intervals of rest for what they truly are. Our bodies simply cannot sustain the rapid pace of ideas and motivation on a daily or weekly basis, akin to sprinting.

Purposeful “Resting Period”

Instead, let us shift our mindset. Rather than perceiving it as “burnout,” let us recognize it as a purposeful “resting period” to replenish our physical and mental energy, preparing ourselves for the upcoming sprint.

It is during these interludes that our creativity, enthusiasm, and imagination regenerate, setting us up for success in the next phase of our voyage. As we venture forward, our minds will resonate with the triumphant melodies of Queen, echoing, We Are the Champions, my friends.”

Always bear in mind: “Burnout never.” Instead, treasure these moments as the valuable “resting periods” they are, fortifying ourselves for the remarkable journey ahead.

Words of Wisdom

Today’s Words of Wisdom were written by six different authors. I compiled these qoutes to be read one after the other to form the message of how burnout starts, how it feels, how to prevent it and change your state of mind.

“Burnout is the combination of resentment, exhaustion, shame, and frustration that make us lose connection to pleasure and passion in the work, and instead encounter difficult feelings like avoidance, compulsion, control, and anxiety. If it were just exhaustion we could take a break and rest and go back. But people who feel burnt out often feel they cannot return to the work or that the group or work they were part of is toxic.”

Dean Spade

Burnout is nature’s way of telling you, you’ve been going through the motions your soul has departed; you’re a zombie, a member of the walking dead, a sleepwalker. False optimism is like administrating stimulants to an exhausted nervous system.”

Sam Keen

Burnout will have you taking a pause for weeks, months, and even years. Take care of yourself and prioritize your overall needs. You will actually have better results after some much-needed time of relaxation.

If you don’t take this more seriously, you can run the risk of losing passion for something you once loved. And it takes an immensity of work to get the urge back.”

Robin S. Baker

“Many people only reevaluate their choices when the price they have been paying for them rears its ugly head. It doesn’t have to be that way, though. You don’t need to wait for disaster to strike to choose a different path, even if you’re already halfway through your current path.”

Daniel Voigt Godoy

“Relaxing brings weakness, when done by a muscle; but brings strength, when done by a person.”
