“Conguering Your Mind” eps.9

Welcome Back

We had a fantastic hike around the southern tip of Martinique, with S/V New World, Sunsplash and Curious!

Hello and thank you for reading today’s podcast. My name is Tom, I am the host and creator of The Social Seed.
Let me ask you a question “have you ever thought that you deserved a better life, you just don’t know how to get it? What if I told you that you can have it…you only have to dream it and apply the knowledge you already possess to live it!

With The Social Seed podcast I help you to search within yourself, see your vision and become the person you are destined to be!

Every week I post a piece of literature I feel will inspire your mind, feed your soul and elevate your life!

Have you heard this poem before?

Be the Bee buzzing around, pollinating people with knowledge abound, creating fruit for all to feed, curing the world with a social seed.”

I titled it “The Legend.

I was inspired to create it after I started reading The 5 AM Club by Robin Sharma.

This poem has become my mantra. To be the person to inspire individuals with weekly words of wisdom and inspiration to help them create a more happy and productive life. More importantly -a better world!

Current Events

Welcome to my current events. Let’s us get caught up with my current events. “If you are going to be stuck somewhere, you better make the best of it!” That’s at least how I feel and being stuck in Martinique isn’t bad at all. It has enabled me to do and see more than I would have normally. We explored the Clement Rhum factory. I not sure which was more of a highlight, the delicious taste of their rhum or the artistic grounds that surrounded the old factory. Also we trekked a fantastic 11.5 mile hike around the southern tip of Martinique leading us once more past Saline Beach. The landscape is awe inspiring. We also had a fantastic time with S/V New World, Curious, and Sun Splash. The sailing community is definitely a great wordly group of individuals.
This is where I will leave off for this week.

Now, let’s read today’s Words of Wisdom and see if it is the seed that will grow inside of you and inspire – your life!

Words Of Wisdom

Today’s post is once again written by Robin Sharma from the book The 5AM Club.

“Let’s go even more granular. As time advanced, our brains evolved. And the prefrontal cortex developed. This is the part of our brain responsible for higher thinking. Neuroscientists consider it the crown jewel of advanced reasoning. The Spellbinder calls it ‘The Mastery Brain.’ But here’s the thing:

As we began to dream bigger, learn quicker and raise our levels of creativity, productivity and performance, the ancient brain and the mastery brain began a conflict. They went to war. The primitive brain senses our growth, knows we’re leaving our safe harbor of the known and gets fired up because we’re leaving our traditional ways of being. It senses the threat—even though the threat is essential to our personal ascension and professional advancement. We absolutely must venture into those unexplored places where possibility lives to become more intimate with our primal genius and to become all we are meant to be. Knowing we have higher reaches of talent and courage left to visit floods a human heart with immense excitement. This knowledge is one of the vast treasures that make life worth living. The celebrated psychologist Abraham Maslow once stated, ‘If you plan on being anything less than who you are capable of being, you will probably be unhappy all the days of your life.’ But the amygdala kicks into high gear as we exit what’s familiar and try something new. The vagus nerve gets provoked, the fear hormone cortisol gets released. And we begin to destroy the very intentions and implementations that our mastery brain so intelligently wants us to realize.”

The Social Seed Talk

I hope you read this section of literature over and over again to understand how the different parts of your brain work, and help yourself realize what is going on with your daily thoughts and why we think the way we do.

So as Robin Sharma writes “We have the Ancient brain or (Amygdala) which is responsible for maintaining a steady state of mind and keeping us safe, always searching for danger”. It is a major processing center for our emotions and links our emotions to our memories, learning and senses. It wants to keep us safe.
Then we have the Mastery brain or (Prefrontal cortex) that is responsible for higher thinking. This part of our brain helps us to focus our attention, plan for the future, control our impulses and manage our emotional reactions; helping us to make strides and better ourselves.

Together, normally, they are great. The Amygdala keeps us safe and aware. The Prefrontal cortex let’s us improve and behavior appropriately.

What happens when one of the two parts of our brain decide to go away from what each of them perceive as normal? Notice I say ‘Them’ because we have a subconscious and may not may be fully aware of thoughts.
The Pre-frontal cortex gives our mind a thought and we explore the idea and try in make it grow to better ourselves. But we come to a stopping point and our Amygdala is over stimulated? We feel a little anxiety or doubt. The Amygdala releases a horomone into our blood and takes control away from the prefrontal cortex or the “Mastery brain” and attempts to bring us to our mental or physical safe zone. Keeping us safe from the unknown and ever achieving what our “Mastery brain” is trying to accomplish – our goals.

So the next time you feel like stopping or giving up. You might want to ask yourself a few questions:

• is this a valid reason to give up?
• if I were to continue what are the benefits?
• what would be my next step if I kept going?

You might realize you’re able to accomplish your goal after all! Don’t let your mind play tricks on you or your Amygdala stop you from becoming the best you!
