“Failure Creates Fearlessness” eps.2

Welcome Back

Hello and thank you for reading today’s podcast. My name is Tom, I am the host and creator of The Social Seed.

Every week I will read a piece of literature I feel will inspire your mind, feed your soul and elevate your life!

This is a poem I was inspired to create after I started reading The 5 AM Club. I call it “The Legend”.

“Be the Bee buzzing around pollinating people with knowledge abound, creating fruit for all to feed, curing the world with a social seed.”

This has become my mantra. To inspire individuals with weekly words of wisdom for a more happy and productive life. More importantly -a better world!

My Current Events

Last week when I left off with my current events, I was checking out of Carriacou, Greneda. The next morning we set sail for Chatham Bay,Union Island which is a little under 10 miles away and part of St.Vincent and the Grenadines. The sail over included winds between 14-20 knots, waves between 3-5 feet and occasional salt spray over the fore deck. We arrived mid morning around 10 and dropped our anchor in 14 feet of clear blue water, white sand that had giant starfish all around.

After snorkeling the anchor and making sure it was set. Our sailing friends from S/V New World arrived and Sean, the Captain from New World, and I began our journey of the 6.5 miles to check into Customs and Immigration located in the town of Clifton. The walk was adventurous, with no known direction to go, except for the gentleman at the Sunset Bar directing us to the path that led us up a very steep, unmarked trail, past some cows, which we found out later the big white cow can be somewhat aggressive, to a road where we didn’t know to go left or right. Finally in the town, we arrived at the Customs and immigration building with the doors locked for lunch. So we decided we should have lunch as well. We ate at The Lazy Turtle. The burgers were good and the scenery over looking the bay with tall ships and lots of reefs and waves were tranquil. Once checked in and back at our boats I went for a snorkel to refresh myself.

While in Chatham for a couple of days there were some highlights. We had a 50 knot wind storm with rain that rolled down the mountain side and blew our sailboat so that our toe rail came close to the water line, which scared my daughter and scattered all the sailboats in the anchorage. Also, there was a sighting of a wind funnel passing through the anchorage by some of the sailors. This area is known for crazy winds that spin boats in different directions, with warnings to give plenty of space between anchored boats.

The next morning many more sailboats started arriving, eventually adding up to around thirty chartered boats which seemed to be traveling together due to each one having a number board attached to their rail. They were most likely not aware of the previous day’s incident or the warnings on the Navionics App, and chose to anchor really close to one another. After, one good blow that came through the anchorage, some boats decided to re-anchor due to near misses of each other. By the next morning all the charter boats had sailed on and there we no incidences that I was aware of that night.

We spent one final day in Chatham and celebrated my oldest daughter’s birthday with five of our sailing boats families. On the beach at the Sunset Bar we lit the candles and sang Happy Birthday. For some the party continued, but for us we were leaving in the morning and had to call it a night at sunset.

When morning came we casually readied the boat to get underway and sailed towards Trois Anse Bay, Mayreau. It was a quick four mile sail and easy anchoring in 22 feet of clear water in nice white sand. Our friends from S/V Passat arrived soon after and anchored off our Starboard Aft. That evening we were able to visit the Mayreau Beach Club and Villas and swim in their pools while we had a beverage at the pool side bar.

The next morning we went on a “Passat hike” known for being a longer than expected hike but enjoyable, around the whole island of Mayreau. We started around 7 a.m. and ended around 9:30 a.m. On the hike we saw places like The Ranch Escape, a lovely little resort type bar with wooden beach chairs on the sand with the view of the Tobago Cays. The path then led us to some beautiful beaches, cliffs where the waves splashed off the rocks and into Salt Whistle Bay, which is lovely little bay with rock built lunch tables with straw sun shades. As we continued up a hill we came to an old Catholic Church which had the best view of the Tobago Cays. Eventually we made our way to the town, to our boats and set our sails again towards the Tobago Cays. That’s is it for this week’s current events!

Let’s listen to today’s words of wisdom and see if it is the Seed that will grow inside of you and inspire -your life

Words Of Wisdom

Today’s words of wisdom were written by Robin Sharma from the book The 5AM Club.

The Billionaire’s Maxim #3. Failure Inflates Fearlessness.

“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all—in which case, you fail by default,” said J.K. Rowling. The mighty goliaths of ambition and the massive behemoth of imagination within you must never be abducted by the tiny cowards of “What would people think?” “What if I get rejected?” and “I’ll probably look silly if I try this.” You can allow yourself to become paralyzed by a fear of rejection or you can go out there and astonish the world. But you just don’t get to do both. Life’s reality is that you have a transcendent destiny that begs for your attention in this era of crushing complexity. Stop abusing your greatness, deforming your magnificence and denying your radiance by labeling something that didn’t turn out as you wanted a failure. We all know that within every seeming setback lies a distinguished opportunity for even greater success. And start saying yes more often in your life. Courage is an exquisite weapon to defeat the armies of regret that tear away at lives meekly lived.

The Social Seed Commentary

When I was younger, in school I wouldn’t raise my hand to ask questions out loud because I was afraid of what the other students might think. I would raise my hand after and personally ask the teacher or not at all. I wish I would have asked more questions out loud though, it would have probably helped other students as well. Over time I have learned to ask those questions, I’ve realized that I don’t have all the answers or the knowledge and maybe other people dont as well. I have also learned that failure is a normal part of growth. Although, it doesn’t feel that way when it happens. I’ve tried many different ventures in my life. I must have purchased at least 20 domain names from Godaddy for different ideas. Godaddy loves me. None of them ever materialized though, I would hit a stopping point and give up. I thought it wasn’t worth it or I couldn’t do it. Through each experience I gained many insights and tiny wins. Still, through all my past failures my imagination is still luminating and inspiring me more than ever. I am here now and I am using all those past lessons learned through failure, to succeed today. I feel more confident than ever and now I have a mental bag of tools for success. This story may sound familiar to some. I encourage you to not give up on your dreams or aspirations. Collectively with time, dedication and your knowledge from your past failed attempts, you’ll find success!
